In the last few releases (including this one) I get the message media_plugin_webkit failed. I can’t hear any streaming music or voice.

Recently, there have been problems with up to date linux distributions and webkit. Kokua release versions are built with an debian squeeze in order to meet the requirements of those on older linux distributions. The nightly builds are built on debian wheezy and a more recent compiler. Please try a test viewer from here. I may switch this around and put the release viewer as default update viewer depending on user feedback. I would also like to know if the voice problem continues with the test viewer as that may be unrelated to webkit failures.

Your updater is glitched. it wants to open a file called “download”…

    Thank you…

  4. NickyP

Could you be more specific than “glitched”. The automatic update downloads come off the sourceforge site and there have been 3 linux 32bit, 23 linux 64 bit and 22 windows downloads. I tested on linux 64 bit last night and had no issues.

I found the problem on windows update. I’ll need to update through SL update system.
    Thanks for the report.

Updater is now working. I’m sorry for any problems. I submitted an updater url with a trailing /download that is now removed.

    Dear NickyP,

I downloaded from the link given and the problems still persist: no media webkit, no streaming music, and no voice. Withough the media-webkit, I can’t even search for things in SL. Maybe I’ll revert to an older release.

    Thanks for your consideration!

    Darnit.

Please make an entry here. It is issue tracker. Please include information
    about your linux distribution.

Btw, within the past few releases we added legacy search. That allows non-webkit searching. You can activate by Ctrl_alt-F or add a toolbar button. Also, the top menu item for World and Commands have entries for it.

    Hey Nicky…
I have downloaded Kokua 3.6.10.30662…. I’ve used Kokua for a long time now, excellent viewer.. but since this version was released if I am online for longer than an hour I really slow down. Someone has mentioned there is a memory leak issue with the latest viewer from LL but I can’t find any info on it all.
My husband is using 3.6.10.30662 as well but on Linux and having the same problems.
We run a very high Fibre Optic connection and both have high-spec PC’s and we have checked the usage etc and nothing has changed in the last few days apart from us upgrading the viewers.

Is there an viewer issue that could be causing this and, if so, is there a fix planned?

If not I will just roll back to the previous version and wait on the next upgrade :)

    You do a great job… don’t stop!

There is a reported and accepted issue on SLjira concerning an FPS drop over time.
This issue is in restricted jira area BUG, so, unless you have elevated access it will not be visible.
There is also an SL forum thread that you may review.

A work around is to use Compact viewer for chat. Compact viewer is the viewer 3 name for plain text chat.

I tried to put images here put it did not work.

Compact view is selected in Conversations with a drop down arrow.

Plain test chat is a check mark selection in Preferences->Chat.

Both ways do the same thing.

Thanks for using Kokua and caring enough about it to comment.

Thank you :) Will change chat view and hope it gets fixed soon. I do hour long shows so relogging all the time isn’t an option lol.

I have a work around you can try.
In the viewer there is an lib64 directory. In lib64 there are 4 libraries the begin with libpcre. Trash those 4 libraries and see if you have webkit working. It will likely notify about missing flash on the the first run but webkit other than flash should work.
